  • Trouble is, when people try to intellectualise peasant food, it usually becomes either spoiled or overpriced. I haven't had these fish 'n' chips, obvs, but I have had other fish 'n' chips in 'smart' restaurants. They're often good, but not as good as the best F&C from a chippy, because you eat those in a different frame of mind. That is, you're hungry and you've earned your supper. That's what fish 'n' chips are for. For sating an industrial-era hunger.

    • The joy of proper F&C is getting the odd couple of scraps amongst your chips…

    • I get that. One of my best food memories from this year is taking some great fish and chips (shout out to Becks) down to the beach in St Ives with a bottle of champagne (the perfect combo if you haven't discovered that one yet)...

  • That's like 75 dollars isn't it?

  • If the portions are generous then I guess it's ok. If this lad is trying to flog tiny "gourmet" fish fingers for £32.5, shame on him.

    • Having grown up in the restaurant industry, I totally agree with you. People just don't appreciate it... And especially when it comes to sustainable fish and meat!
