6 classic gin cocktails you need in your life
Celebrating World Gin Day. It's the most wonderful time of the year...!
It’s World Gin Day today, aka one of the most important days of the year. It’s a global celebration of all things gin, held every year on the second Saturday in June.
Organised and headed up by the gin legend that is Gin Monkey, the idea of the day is to get people together all around the world, and raise a glass to delicious gin.
We also can’t believe it’s already been a whole year since James May and Richard Hammond joined Gin Monkey herself for a lesson in how to drink and taste gin!
Here's a little reminder of that delightful hour.
Whether you’ll be drinking it neat, sticking to the G+Ts, or want to take things up a level, we wanted to give you some cocktail inspiration too. So here are six delicious drinks to get mixing, shaking and stirring on this wonderful day.
Happy World Gin Day!
A little ginspiration: 6 gin cocktails to help you celebrate
Clover Club
The Clover Club is a true classic that brings together lots of delicious elements. It's a little sweet, a little sour and a little punchy. The perfect cocktail to start your evening.
Ingredients
50ml Hernö Gin
20ml lemon juice
20ml raspberry syrup
10ml egg white
Raspberries
Method
To make the raspberry syrup, make 1 litre of simple syrup, equal parts sugar and water. Add 250g of raspberries to the warm simple syrup. Let it rest for a couple of hours and strain away the raspberries. Will last in the refrigerator for about 3 months. Pour Hernö Gin, lemon juice, raspberry syrup and egg white into a shaker. Shake all the ingredients without ice to get a foam. Add ice to the shaker and shake it like you mean it for about 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with raspberries or keep it simple.
Basil Smash
There's no beating the combination of sweet and sour. Everyone seems to love it. That's exactly what you'll get from this dreamy basil smash.
Ingredients
50ml Conker Dorset Dry Gin
25ml fresh lemon juice
15-25ml sugar syrup (to taste)
5 or so basil leaves
Method
Place all your ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a lot of ice and shake vigorously – the phrase ‘Hulk Smash!’ comes to mind. Pour through a sieve into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with basil leaves – giving these a clap between your hands to make their fragrance pop. Basil… smashed.
Negroni
I can't get enough of a Negroni. I'd even go as far to say... it's my favourite cocktail. It's classic, strong, boozy, bitter, refreshing and delicious. While it's seems simple enough to make (1:1:1 ratio on ingredients), I've had some terrible Negronis in my life...! However, I can promise you this one will be delicious.
Ingredients
30ml London No.1 .gin
30ml Gonzalez Byass Vermouth La Copa
30ml Campari
Method
Add your gin, Campari and sweet vermouth to a mixing glass filled with plenty of ice, and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with more ice cubes (the bigger the better!). Garnish with a slice of orange.
Bramble
A relative newbie to the cocktail world, the Bramble was invented in the 80s by Dick Bradsell at Fred's Club in Soho, London. For some reason though, it feels a lot older. It's of course named after the bush blackberries grow on, which are a signifiant part of the drink. Let's get to it.
Ingredients
35ml Monkey 47 gin
20ml Lemon juice
15ml Sugar syrup
15ml Crème de Mure
Blackberries/Lemon zest
Method
Place the Monkey 47, Lemon Juice, and Sugar Syrup into a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice cubes. Shake and then strain into a nice tumbler filled with crushed ice. Drizzle with Crème de Mure and garnish with Blackberries and a Lemon zest.
French 75
As we're celebrating all things gin, it makes sense to finish on a celebratory cocktail topped with Champagne. The name is slightly less friendly than the drink implies though, as it was named for the fast-firing 75mm field gun utilised by the French during the first world war. Enough about military history though, let's get to the recipe.
25ml Bathtub gun
12.5ml simple syrup
12.5ml lemon juice
75ml Champagne
Garnish with a twist of lemon
Method
Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a Champagne flute. Top with your Champagne. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

We will have Whey Gin, one of the many great Gins for wonderful Brunny Island, with vodka. Shaken, not stirred! LOL. By the way, don't know if it's true or not, but I recently found out why shaken, not stirred. James Bond sees himself a mover and shaker. His enemies always stir the sh*t. So, they are stirrers. Hence, shaken, not stirred!
My favorite summer drink: 2 Oz gin (your favorite)
1 squeeze of lime
splash of black current (1 teaspoon)
Splash of club soda (1-2 teaspoons)
Muddled blueberries into crushed ice
Stirred
Strained into a chilled glass and served with a lemon peel
Amazing drinks for sure! For the gin enthousiasts out there that want to try something different. Replace your gin with genever, gives the drinks a grainy kick to it. Cheers 🥂 🍸🍹
This posted right after I got a new bottle of Gin. Coincidence? I think not! 🥂🤣
