7-Eleven is trying out a cashierless store
The idea is to make those 7-Eleven trips even quicker
A brand new 7-Eleven has opened in North Texas — but this one doesn’t have a real life human working there.
The store is the first ever cashierless 7-Eleven.
The store uses a clever combo of algorithms and predictive technology to separate one customer’s purchases from another.
The store sells the most popular products sold at usual 7-Elevens — from drinks and snacks to non-food items.
Based at the company’s headquarters in Irving, the idea is that the concept will be trialled on 7-Eleven employees before potentially rolling it out to other locations.
“Ultimately, our goal is to exceed consumers’ expectations for faster, easier transactions and a seamless shopping experience,” said Mani Suri, 7-Eleven senior vice president and chief information officer. “Introducing new store technology to 7-Eleven employees first has proven to be a very productive way to test and learn before launching to a wider audience.”
According to CBS DFW, to test the store, employees must download an app, sign up, and check in before shopping. Then their receipt automatically appears in the app when they leave the store.
7-Eleven actually started testing a mobile checkout app called Scan & Pay at a few Dallas locations back in November 2019. Last summer, it rolled the app out to some New York stores.
