Despite having to use myself as the header image for this article, I cannot stress enough how important it is to drink enough water each day. I am guilty of not drinking enough sometimes but I always aim to get at least 2-3 litres down my gullet each day. Once you get over the constant need to wee, you start to notice so many positive changes in your life.
This is why I have put together a list of seven reasons why you should drink enough water each day and why it is so important to do so.
It improves your mood
I have found this to be so true. Whenever you are grouchy or not feeling up to anything, it may be because you haven't had enough to drink. I always find myself in a much better mood after drinking a well-deserved glass of water, or more if necessary.
Keeping hydrated can improve fitness
It is a well known fact that athletes sweat out 6-10 percent of their total body weight during an intense workout session. This is why it is vital to drink a lot of water when training. Sometimes, I can drink up to 2 litres of water in an hours workout alone. This will help you maintain energy and keep you from feeling dehydrated, which is not what you want when you're working out.
It can help you lose weight
While this may sound like a long shot, water has been proven to aid in weight loss, especially in girls and women. One of the main reasons for this is that water fills you up. Let's say you have just had lunch but fancy a brownie, don't have the brownie and have some water instead. I am by no means saying you should substitute water for food but it goes great longside it.
Make sure to drink plenty when you're ill
Drinking enough fluids when you are ill is vital. In fact, one of my friends is quite poorly at the moment and I can't believe how many times I have had to tell her to drink more water. Some people can be so stubborn! Drinking water when you're ill helps to flush out all the bad stuff inside you, so it is definitely worth it.
It keeps your skin healthy
This isn't something I have ever really looked into before, but drinking enough water is a way to help keep your skin looking healthy and fresh. Everything will work a bit better and feel a it better by keeping your body and face hydrated.
Water helps other 'fluids' leave your body
Yes, water is used for sweat, wee and other more brown coloured substances. Think about it this way. Let's say you were to sweat out a pint of liquid in the gym, you will then need to replenish that with water again afterwards. Water is also a great way to help avoid constipation and can also help avoid kidney stones, so make sure you drink enough!
I keeps everything in running order
Now, what I mean by this is that it keeps your joints lubricated, it keeps the brain healthy which improves your mental state, it gives you energy, it helps with the digestive system, it really does it all. This is just proves how important water really is to us.
With that all said, I hope you are going to make sure you are drinking enough water. We are so privileged to have access to clean water, so don't waste it and don't misuse it. Millions of people would do anything to have the water have.
If you are wondering how much you should drink, then I'll give you a little indicator. Men should aim to drink around 6 pints of water a day, whereas women should aim to drink around 4-5 pints of water a day.
