Aldi's Christmas advert shows Cuthbert the caterpillar being arrested

A great joke following on from the M&S lawsuit

Aldi's 2021 Christmas advert is beautiful as all ads are at this time of year, but if you look closely, this one has a funny yet sinister edge to it.

Earlier this year, M&S argued that Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake infringes their Colin the Caterpillar’s trademark and therefore sued the German supermarket.

The case was dubbed the ‘Battle of the Caterpillars’ by Aldi fans, who were quick to spring to the internet and post memes about the whole situation using the #FreeCuthbert hashtag. Even Aldi themselves joined in on the banter.

So, in the brand's 2021 Christmas advert, they played this to their advantage by arresting Cuthbert in the background of the seemingly light-hearted celebration of the season. It's a hilarious move by Aldi – we just hope M&S aren't too offended.

Aldi’s full 2021 Christmas advert titled ‘A Christmas Carrot’, premiered on November 11 on ITV but can be found on YouTube.

  • I also sadly don’t know anything about this and even never saw an edible caterpillar at Aldi. Still I am a fan of Kevin Carrot and even have a plushie of him! 😊
