Americans are the BBQ experts, just like the Australians, Serbs and Turks. But the Brits can hold their chin up and provide some serious competition with these recipes from Masterbuilt.

Let's face it, it doesn't hurt to be a bit, how can I put it, braggadocious about these things, right? BBQ is all about meat quality, patience, and having the right piece of kit.

Time to get our grill on, or do we mean barbecue? Or both. We're still learning the lingo over here. And yes, we do still refer to *everything* done on a barbecue, as barbecuing in the UK. It's our thing, alright, and we won't be told otherwise.

You may think you have the barbecue thing down. We get that. But allow us to introduce you to the Masterbuilt Gravity series and all its fancy gubbins. Choose from three models: the Gravity Series 560 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker; the Gravity Series 800 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker with griddle and the Gravity Series 1050 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker.

All three dream machines will smoke, grill, sear, bake and roast your meat and veg like never before. And the best thing? They might look super-advanced and futuristic, but they work as smoothly with grill newbies as they do with those of you who are comfortable flipping meat... sorry *ahem*, being authentic barbecue royalty... and Brits, it's our time to shine.

*Warning* The following recipes may result in the very speedy purchase of a Masterbuilt barbecue, followed by a speedy trip to buy all the ingredients, followed by an entire weekend spent making every single recipe on the list and proving that we can give those Americans a run for their money.

Prepare to feel hungry...

1. Smoked whole long bone-in prime rib

It's time to embrace your inner Salt Bae and start cooking some ribs. You might wanna keep your favourite salt cellar handy so you can work your magic when you're done, and you might wanna grab a beer and the traditional BBQ apron before you get started. To get into the right spirit, y' know.

You'll want to be slow-cooking your prime rib at just 107°C for this recipe. The Masterbuilt Gravity Series barbecues make doing so easy thanks to the digital control panel that allows you to precisely set the temperature. The DigitalFan ensures that temperature is maintained – even over several hours – which is how long you'll be cooking it for here! We promise it's worth the wait.

2. Smoked chorizo queso

Did you know that chorizo is Spanish for "amazing dish everyone loves"? This is literally true. Also, did you know that queso is Spanish for "the best invention since the wheel"? This is also 100% true. All jokes aside, chorizo is seasoned chopped pork sausage used in Spanish and Mexican cuisine and it is excellent. And the one thing you can do to make it even more excellent is use James May's favourite ingredient: cheeeeese.

3. Smoked brisket

Admit it, you just can't wait until your brisket is ready so you can chop it and season it in a 'suave' manner. We've all been there. I'm not sure why, but I feel like BBQ, sometimes, is all about showing off. No, is it just me?

4. Pulled Pork Nachos

Well, technically these are two different recipes. You've got to prepare the nachos as well as the pulled pork, but don't worry, we've got you covered.

5. Corn on the cob

A quick Google search told me that the list of towns with familiar English names in Texas includes Richmond, Southampton, London, Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool, Bristol and even Wortham. I apologise if I'm resorting to stereotypes here but corn on the cob automatically made me think of London, Texas. Or London, England. Corn on the cob is a fan favourite and possibly one of the most underrated BBQ dishes ever.

  • One of the best meals I ever had was the brisket at Franklin BBQ in Austin, TX. I dream about that stuff!

  • These all look so incredibly good, even the corn - and I never say that about corn

  • Although smoked brisket is amazing, smoked prime rib is a winner, hands down!
