An easy way to make Flammkuchen
A simple Flammkuchen, or Tarte Flambée as the French call it, can be very delicious if done right. Here is a simple recipe.
Flammkuchen has its origins in the French-German Border Region, especially in the Alsace Region of France and the Baden Area of Germany. It consists of a thinly rolled, crispy Base usually topped with Crème Fraîche, Onions and Lardons.
Traditional and delish!

Ingredients
- Pizza dough (I usually go with store bought)
- 2 Cups (400 grams) of Crème Fraîche or Sour Cream or Crème Doublé
- 150 grams of sliced Lardon/ Bacon Bits (or more)
- 2 mid-sized onions
- Salt & Pepper, to taste
- Chives, to taste
Instructions
Dough
- Roll out your dough as thin and evenly as possible. This is very important. (You could make your own dough, but I am not very good at that.)
The Crème
- Season your Crème Fraîche with salt & pepper. (I don't usually use salt, as bacon has enough of it.)
- Add your thinly cut chives if you want any. (can also be used as a topping.)
- Spread it as evenly as possible.
The Toppings
- Cut your onions into thin half rings.
- Spread them across your pie.
- Spread your bacon bits evenly.
- Add your thinly cut chives, if you want any (and if they aren't in the Crème already.)
Baking
- Bake for 15-20 Minutes or until it starts to brown on the edges.
Recipe Notes
You can mix your Crème Fraîche with the other Crèmes to vary the Fat Content of your Flammkuchen. Can be easily scaled up or down.
