Appletiser Chicken

Sounds a bit weird, but it works

MealDinner

Ingredients

  • Chicken breasts
  • 1 mushroom flavoured packet soup
  • 1 can of Appletiser, or any apple soft drink
  • Olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 laurel leaf

Instructions

  1. We chop the onion and put it in a pot with a spoon of olive oil. We cook it on a medium heat, letting it reduce.
  2. Meanwhile we slice the chicken breasts in small pieces, and put them in a bowl.
  3. We add the packet of powdered mushroom soup to the bowl and we try to cover all the sides of the chicken pieces.
  4. In a pan with olive oil we cook the chicken and remove when they are done.
  5. When the onion is soft and golden, we add the chicken and the laurel, we also add the Appletiser, and the leftover mushroom soup powder.
  6. We cook for 10-15 min until we get a thick brown sauce.
  7. We can serve it with rice, fries, anything.

    • Oh, maybe you can find some other herb that goes well with chicken. You could skip the leaf anyways. Here it's common to add to sauces but I think it would totally be fine without it too.

    • The Internet tells me that laurel leaf = bay leaf. The Internet is never wrong, right?

  • Interesting! Is the aplestiser as sweet as coca cola?

    • No, it's more... Like cyder without alcohol 🤣, I know people make this recipe with cocacola and beer. I haven't tried the cocacola though, this one creates a sweet and sour sauce.

    • Appletiser is a South African drink, I've seen it here in Canary Islands since I was a child, and it was hard to find outside, in the rest of Spain, for example. But lately they're starting to sell it in many grocery stores in different...
