¡Arruiné el desayuno! I Ruined Breakfast!
What was supposed to be Huevos Rancheros turned into a burnt mess, then breakfast burritos!
I was so excited to be making breakfast this morning! I received an email with a link to an article about making Huevos Rancheros on the grill and decided I was going to treat my wife to something different for breakfast. I was working from this article: https://barbecuebible.com/recipe/huevos-rancheros-bacon-and-eggs-foil-packets/
It started out pretty simple; spread some refried beans on some tortillas, drop some egg on top of that, loosely wrap in foil, and place onto a 400°F grill for 13 to 15 minutes. While my foil packets of South American breakfast were on the grill, I prepared some toppings! I fried up some bacon (turkey for my wife, real bacon for me), chopped up some green onion, and got out sour creme, Pepper Jack cheese, and salsa. After 12 minutes I went out to check on my grilled Huevos Rancheros. I found disaster!
Some refried beans spread out on tortillas.
For my wife, I did scrambled eggs.
Mine was going to have fried eggs.
The Huevos Rancheros was loosely wrapped in foil to go on the grill.
Huevos Rancheros on the grill!
I could smell it before I saw it. The scent of something burning hit my nose. Somehow the grill had climbed in temperature to 450°F. My breakfast was toast!
This was supposed to be the result.
This is what I ended up with though!
All was not lost though. We were able to scrape some of the bean and egg mixture from the charred remains of breakfast and combine that with the toppings I had prepared. We turned that into breakfast burritos! There was only a hint of the well done-ness that resulted from bits of charred food being mixed in.
While not the awesome Huevos Rancheros I was hoping for, it was an okay breakfast, with a hint of well done-ness.
