Carlton & United Breweries, based in Melbourne in the land 'Down Under', has launched an innovative programme, which allows beer lovers to get free boxes of beer in exchange for solar energy.
By joining the CUB's Solar Exchange, this is the name of the programme, you can trade credit on your power bill for beer and for every AU$30, you get a box of beer produced by Victoria Bitter, CUB's signature lager, delivered straight to your door step.
Brian Phan, Marketing Manager at CUB, said they came up with the idea because “the only thing better than drinking the big cold beer in the Aussie sun is earning beer while you do it. Plus it’s a real win-win for beer lovers and the environment.”
“Last year we put the Australian sun to work and started brewing VB with 100% offset solar energy," Phan said. "Now we’ve launched this Aussie-first programme to thank those who have made the effort to go solar with some hard-earned VB.
CUB, once part of AB InBev group, was purchased by Asahi last year and this initiative is part of Asahi's grand plan to use 100% renewable electricy by 2025. You can sign up here.
