We were having a family gathering at my In-laws house and I was asked to bring baked beans. So I thought I would bring you along for this.
First off baked beans needs bacon! So I cut up some bacon and got it started cooking in a skillet. I diced up an onion that I toss in close to the bacon being cooked, just to soften it. Such a nice smoky smell and the sweetness of the onion.
I strain the bacon and onion mixture and add it to the beans and go about gathering the rest of my ingredients. Maple syrup, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, dried mince onion and some dried minced garlic. I normally also toss some cayenne in but there will be people at the gathering that might have issues from it.
I mix this up well and tasted for any adjustments to seasoning. I placed into a 375 degree oven for about 45 minutes.
Everything turned out great and everyone was happy. What do you like in your baked beans?
