BK debuts plant-powered Impossible Sausage
Impossible are also launching new plant-based ground pork
It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for: Impossible Foods have launched brand new products, following on from the hugely successful Impossible Burger, which first hit our tables back in 2016.
Now the company is giving us plant-based alternatives to pork and sausage — and just in time for Veganuary.
The Impossible Pork has 16g of protein and 220 calories in a 4oz serving, and can be used in any recipe where you’d normally find ground pork. It has a mild savoury flavor with an umami richness.
The Impossible Sausage, meanwhile, is being debuted exclusively at 139 Burger King restaurants in five test regions of the US.
The limited-edition Impossible Croissan’wich features a toasted croissant, egg, cheese and the seasoned plant-based sausage, so it’s that same Croissan’wich taste you love but minus the meat.
Participating Burger King restaurants in Savannah, GA, Albuquerque, NM, Montgomery, AL, Lansing, MI and Springfield, IL will be testing the Impossible Croissan’wich.
This makes BK the first restaurant to test Impossible Sausage made from plants on a breakfast sandwich.
Impossible Foods CEO and founder Patrick Brown said: “Impossible Foods cracked meat’s molecular code – starting with ground beef, which is intrinsic to the American market. Now we’re accelerating the expansion of our product portfolio to more of the world’s favourite foods.
“We won’t stop until we eliminate the need for animals in the food chain and make the global food system sustainable.”
The company pointed to the “high environmental cost” of using pigs as a protein production technology, particularly in China, where more than half the world’s pigs are eaten.
Laura Kliman, Impossible Foods’ senior flavour scientist, said: “Pork is delicious and ubiquitous — but problematic for billions of people and the planet at large. By contrast, everyone will be able to enjoy Impossible Pork, without compromise to deliciousness, ethics or Earth.”
