Bored of cake? Here's an easy way to bake a variety of sweet treats
Prepare just one batter, but enjoy multiple cake varieties
Sweet treats. Who doesn’t like them? Okay, maybe the people who don’t have a sweet tooth – but apart from that, I believe everyone else does. Lockdown has made it a little challenging to acquire a variety of desserts. So, why not make a variety yourself?
You may laugh at me, saying if it was so easy, you would’ve done it by now. And I’m here to tell you that it is that easy – you just haven’t given it a try. For instance, take a look at this aesthetically decorated platter. Everything in here was made from one batter. Don’t believe me? That’s okay. Some people thought the Chinese virus wasn’t a real thing as well. What do you know...
Fear making such desserts will require you to have the skillset of a master chef? You’ve got to be crazy. To make these, you only need to know how to mix ingredients and beat them until the mixture forms a smooth batter. Also, buying an oven might be a little troublesome now, so it’s better if you already have one.
Now, the list of ingredients isn’t that long either. You should just have some butter, flour, baking soda, baking powder, water, icing sugar and sweetened condensed milk (or a can of Mithai Mate as found in India). Mixing these well and beating unti lyou get a smooth batter, you’re already quite close to coming up with a similar looking sweet dish platter.
But you mentioned having a variety with the same batter. How do I do that?
I was coming to that. While preparing the batter, pour half of it into another container. If you’re a chocolate fanatic like me, just add one teaspoon of cocoa powder to the separated batch of batter, then show the insides of the oven to both batter containers for half an hour.
Now, if you’re looking to replicate the platter here, you’ll have to use several decorative ingredients and borrow some of my mum’s ideas. But other than that, these mini-doughnuts and cute cupcakes serve as a brilliant treat-between-meals if you’re having a bad day. Or just fancy something sweet. Or have a drool running down your mouth .
