Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar launched her own wine brand
A Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay and a Pinot Grigio
Sarah Michelle Gellar*, most people will remember her for playing 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' in the WB/UPN series in the late 1990s/early 2000s, has formed a partnership with Australian wine company Yellow Tail to create her own brand of low-alcohol wine.
She said she fell in love with Australian wines, especially whites, while filming on location in the land Down Under. "I think for me it was more about the experience of being able to document a time and place with taste,” Gellar said. “You learn a lot about a culture, a city and a country based on what they drink. The Pure Bright line-up has a very specific flavour profile. Yellow Tail kept the essence that makes a wine beautiful."
John Casella, managing director of Yellow Tail's parent company Casella Family Brands, says the fact these are lower calorie wines shouldn't change our perspective. "Until now, lower calorie wines have been seen as light on flavour. That was a trade-off we weren’t willing to make,” Casella said. "We took the opposite approach, ensuring great taste and then working our way backwards to deliver on making it lighter".
Gellar's wine range is called 'Pure Bright' and it comprises three different white wines - a Sauvignon, a Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay - priced at $7 per bottle. The Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio contain 80 calories per glass and bottled at 8.5% ABV, while the Australian Chardonnay comes in with 9.6% ABV and 85 calories per glass.
