Burger Wars: Where does Applebee's rank?

Let's see what you all chose for me...

Once again I asked you all to pick a burger for me to eat, and unanimously, the Whiskey bacon burger was chosen. Surprise surprise? I also want to say, I had no idea that Applebee's was banned in so many places.

At first I thought it looked pretty good. My opinion changed quickly after a couple of pictures though. Can you guess why? I will give you a second to look.

...Where is the beef patty? This is a half pound burger that looks like a vegetable sandwich. Talk about disappointing.

Does it taste as good as it looks? The short answer is... not really.

How it comes. I simply took off the lid

How it comes. I simply took off the lid

As with all previous burgers, I ate this as it came. First thing was to try a bit of the beef. It was very tender and tasted like good quality beef. As soon as I took a bite though, water started dripping like rain out of this burger. There was so much water in the lettuce, tomatoes and pickles that I had a large puddle of water on my plate.

The tomatoes were sliced way too thick and so many of them. The onions were nice and crisp. Honestly there had to be a half a pound of lettuce on this thing. The pickles were nice when you could taste them through all the lettuce and tomatoes. What little sauce it had on it was good, but was only tasted in the middle and only for a couple of bites.

What little bacon I could taste was probably good before it got soaked by all the water from the vegetables – it tasted like wet bacon. Honestly the only way I knew I was getting bites of burger was just because of texture differences.

Applebee's how could you ruin a burger with such great potential? This was nothing more than a half pound vegetable sandwich, with occasional small bites of meat. Now to be fair I would try this again, but I would order it my way without those red rings of death and three quarters less lettuce. Then I think you may have a really enjoyable burger. I still question the half pound beef patty though.

I have to put the Whiskey bacon burger from Applebee's between Rally's and Wendy's. In its vegetable sandwich form it is still better than Rally's, but not even close to being as good as Wendy's.

Have any of you tried this before? Tell me in the comments below. Stay wonderful FoodTribe! Always remember, I love you my friends!

Stay tuned for the the next Burger Wars...

  • It sounds like applebee's added "the salad" to the 🍔. Disappointing, it didn't look bad.

    • Right! You know burgers as well as I do. If that had a half pound patty it would be more noticeable right?

    • You've got to strike the right balance of flavors and use proper ingredients. Sounds like they screwed that up!

  • I can't say I am surprised at this outcome. I looked back at the Menu pic and compared to what you got.....quite a gap in appearance, but that's almost always the case! What does shock me is you saying a Wendy's burger is better!!!? I live in Florida and in the 20th.....Wendy's was FAR better then BK & MacD....which really isn't tough....lol. But here, in the 21st.....and it goes back that far....Wendy's (and our KFC's too) have started using some oil (10w30?) that has a HORRIBLE aftertaste . So much so, my family and I won't eat there, and haven't for many, many years! BUT......damnit......now I have to try a "baconator" because of you, but at least I know better than order anything fried....so a burger without fries......SAD! But a lot of bacon on a burger......sounds awesome. time to try I guess.

    • All of the menu pictures are click bait.

Our Wendy's here is pretty good, no weird taste to the fries or anything. Honestly our KFC has some really good chicken. I don't blame you for not wanting to eat there if it tastes that bad. My boy...

  • It looks like you got some of the core of the lettuce too instead of nice leafy pieces. Sounds as though this burger was thrown together in a hurry. I only had their mushroom and swiss burger which I think was okay. I'd agree with your ranking of their quality.

    • It was either made in a hurry or it was to hide the lack of beef. I am glad you agree with my ranking. 🙂
