As we know our friend Doug F has been on a quest for the ultimate cheese steak. It got me thinking and I decided to create my own. I should first add that I have never done this before so completely a new experience for me.
Firstly I got a piece of sirloin steak and cut it in half so I had two pieces and brushed with some olive oil, some dried onion and seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled it till it was just under rare. I took two slices of crusty bread and toasted one side on both pieces, I turned it over and brushed the untoasted side with garlic butter and topped with a sliced mozzarella ball and returned to the grill the start the melting process. I topped the steak with some sliced mild cheddar cheese and returned to the grill. Taking one slice of the bread I started to build the stack. I placed one piece of steak with the melted cheddar on top of the mozzarella that had already melted on top of that I added two slices of Monterey Jack then topped with the other piece of steak and returned to the grill for a few minutes while I cooked a fried egg to which I put on top of the steak and added the other slice of bread mozzarella side down.
As a first attempt at this I was quite surprised how much I actually liked it and will be something that I will try again. Personal thanks to @Doug F for setting the ball rolling with this idea.
