Back when I lived in Alabama & I’d visit my friend in Knoxville, she’d always bake a chocolate pie. That thing was the best pie ever. After years of loving on that amazing chocolate pie I begged for the recipe but it seemed too complicated to me. Pies were always something I just wasn’t very good at.
This is only my second time in twenty years making this one & both times they turned out fine. This time I did cheat though. I used a store bought (gluten free) pie crust. The filling is just homemade dark chocolate pudding. You make a custard first with milk & sugar & then temper in the egg yolks. Many many egg yolks. Six of them. Next add butter, chocolate chips & vanilla extract. Then add to the crust & chill overnight. The following day I topped with homemade whipped cream.
