Comedian Joe Lycett sends angry letter to Starbucks with pun suggestions

'Merry Coffee' wasn't good enough for him

2y ago

Every Christmas, food companies around the globe aim to throw out as many clever puns as they can to sell their products to more people. Starbucks is one of them but they produced a rather disappointing one this christmas.

Their slogan read, 'Merry Coffee', which isn't so imaginative. So unimaginative in fact that British comedian, Joe Lycett sent them a comprehensive complaint full of better suggestions he had come up with himself. Reading some of these, you wonder why Starbucks couldn't do any better than 'Merry Coffee'.

  • I agree with his issue. Merry Coffee is terrible, but his aren't much better.

It would still be dumb, but definitely better if they just did, "On the first day of christmas, my true love gave to me.... a mug full of starbucks coffee".

There are so many different directions they could have taken that would have been better than a pun that isn't even a pun.

  • I don't care what anybody else says, sarcasm is definitely not the lowest form of wit. Excellent letter.
