Easy to cook and tasty as well... here is the first one among the list of comfort foods

Bachelor life teaches you many things, chief among which is cooking. If you have the interest for it, that is. Without further ado, let’s dive straight into the recipe for a lip-smacking vegetarian dish – lemon rice.

As you might have guessed, the main ingredient is lemon. But first, you have to prepare rice, which is a simple process. If you have a pressure cooker, it is easy. Just add two tumblers of rice in the cooker and wash the rice. Then add four tumblers of water and cook it for 25 minutes in induction stove. Once the rice is done, here is how you make lemon rice:

Lemon rice

A mix of cooked rice along with a few spices and of course, a dash of lemon juice



  • Lemons, 2,3 or more depending on the number of hungry people
  • Salt
  • Turmeric
  • Channa dal and urad dal - a table spoon each
  • red chilli, dry
  • refined oil
  • mustard seeds
  • cooked rice, again depending on the number of hungry people
  • cumin
  • curry leaves and coriander leaves


  1. In a pan, pour 2 table spoons of oil and heat it for 30 seconds
  2. Then add mustard (half teaspoon), red chilli (2-3, break it and add), urad dal, channa dal ( both two teaspoons each), cumin (one teaspoon) and stir for 30 seconds, till the dals become brown
  3. Add salt and turmeric powder ( one tea spoon)
  4. Add curry leaves to the mix ( a few leaves, for the taste)
  5. Add lemon juice to the mix and let it heat further for 3 minutes
  6. Now add this mixture to the cooked rice and mix it well
  7. Add coriander leaves to enhance the taste
