Coronavirus: Corona Beer stops brewing as Mexican Govt. deems it non-essential
Stops production because of the health emergency in the country over the Covid-19 virus
Grupo Modelo said yesterday that it will stop brewing Corona Beer and other brands under the group. Along with brewing, it will also suspend it exporting activities to 180 countries after the Mexican government has declared its business activities were non-essential in a government order. This came after the Mexican government this week declared a health emergency after the number of Covid-19 cases surpassed 1,000. The order states that the suspension will last till 30th April, 2020.

The brewer has stated that they will suspend production from Sunday and was already in the process of scaling down production to a level which would allow them to resume its business activities once the suspension is lifted.
As agriculture and food production are considered as an essential activity, Grupo Modelo have also stated that if the government offers some clarification by confirming beer as an agriculture and food product, they are willing to execute a plan which has 75% of their staff working from home/remotely and still maintain their supply of beer.
