With COVID-19 wreaking havoc in our lives, a lot of things we took for granted have been affected – including how we buy and handle our groceries.

You must have seen multiple article and videos on how to handle and clean your groceries.

We tried a new method. After we got the fruit and vegetables, we put them in the dishwasher and ran the rinse cycle for fifteen minutes. They came out looking pretty clean and fresh. Also, our dishwasher used hot water during the cycle.

As per the FDA, we should not use soap to sanitise our fruits and vegetables. I have read in some places that you can use vinegar as well.

Do let me know your thoughts on what we did. Also, let me know how you're cleaning and sanitising your fruits and vegetables in the comments below!

  • We leave them in our backyard for a while, so the sun takes care of all the sanitising.

  • We've taken a fair few deliveries and have sanitised all the packaging with 90% alcohol Sanitiser. For anything non-essential, we've left it tucked away in the garage for 7+ days before touching. It's quite a faff but minimises risk.

  • Anything that can be taken out of a box, I do so and throw the box out. I only buy produce that's already packaged, then take it out at home. I wipe off everything else with Lysol wipes. It's a pain but it's best to be really safe!

  • Straight in to the fridge cupboard to be honest. If you are going to die then you are going to die at some point . To be totally honest I think we should try and build up an immunity system to try and beat the virus rather than be squeaky clean then be it.

    • I agree on that front. But at this point all we are doing is spreading it. If we can manage and control the spread then it’s fine. Our medical systems can cope with it. Otherwise we are in trouble.

  • Doesn't your Rinse cycle use Rinse Aid?

    • I am not too sure. It is there In a separate compartment. But I am not sure if it gets utilized during this process.
