Costa Coffee's New Vegan Offering
Cheese toasties for all in the new year at the UK's favourite high street coffee shop
If you, like me, enjoy the gloriously cruelty-free taste of oat milk in your Costa Coffee flat white, you’ll be delighted to learn that now you can have a vegan cheese and ham toastie alongside it.
A toastie. Not a cheese and ham toastie, but a toastie nonetheless
Yes, you guessed it: Costa Coffee is releasing a vegan ham and cheese toastie for Veganuary. The ham is Quorn’s very own ‘smokey ham’ substitute, as many will have seen in supermarkets. The cheese is derived from coconut milk, and referred to as ‘cheeZe’ by Costa to keep the dairy industry legal teams from complaining.
The toastie is only £2.95, and is remarkably close to the real thing. It has already received glowing reviews from a group of Pimlico plumbers, who were enlisted as blind taste testers.
Eric Tavoukdjian, Commercial Marketing Director at Costa Coffee said: ‘Knowing that the Pimlico team are big toastie fans, we couldn’t resist the chance to test whether they could tell the difference.’ Remarkably, most of these seasoned toastie aficionados didn’t notice that they were eating a new vegan toastie rather than their old favourite. ‘We are delighted to receive an undisputed tradie seal of approval from Pimlico for our latest offering’, reflected Eric Tavoukdjian.
