Could you beat this 3 minute Jaffa Cake record?
A British man has set an unofficial record for the most Jaffa cakes eaten in 3 minutes.
Stu Hayler, a 39 year old British man, won a recent Jaffa cake eating competition, and set an unofficial world record in the process.
In just three minutes, Stu ate an incredible 36 Jaffa Cakes. That's one cake every five seconds, which, if I'm honest, doesn't sound particularly difficult. But then again, one cake every five seconds for three minutes straight sounds pretty gruelling.
Stu's internal monologue: 'pain is temporary, glory is eternal'
This feat was achieved at The George Pub & Grill in Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, where five contestants lined up with hopes of winning a cash prize. The event was part of the newly formed British Eating League that was set up by the pub's owner.
‘I’m absolutely over the moon to launch the British Eating League after creating some of the world’s biggest dishes here at the pub,’ said organiser Craig Harker.
He went on to say: ‘Eating is a sport and I’m proud to chair both the Eating League and Ultimate Eating Championship to bring competitive eating to venues all across the country. Every event is overseen by the UK Competitive Eating Organisation which supports with safety planning, rules and guidance to ensure every event is safe for all.'
Stu ate more Jaffa Cakes in three minutes than anyone ever has done, but the coveted Guinness World Record title doesn't acknowledge this achievement. The Jaffa Cake speed eating record is measured over a time of only one minute, and so was given to a man who goes by the name Furious Pete.
Pete ate an impressive 17 in one minute, whereas Stu could only do a measly 12. It seems that Stu will continue to live in Pete's shadow, and with a stomach capacity like his, we've no doubt it's a large one.
