Did you know Black Pudding is a superfood?

It's better for you than you think

1y ago

For many years, I have always dismissed the black pudding as being a horrible addition to any full English breakfast, until recently.

The other week, I thought I would try it with my breakfast and was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. I then decided to do a bit of digging and find out what exactly is in it.

So, as far as I can gather, it is made from fried animals blood (usually from a pig). Yes, this might sound disgusting but it isn't too different from a sausage when cooked. I then discovered that black pudding is actually classed as a superfood.

What makes it a superfood?

When someone mentions the word superfood, I often think of kale or other healthy green things, not some black fried blood. However, it turns out that black pudding has very high nutritional values thanks to its rich iron and protein content.

It was declared a superfood in 2016 and continues to exist as one.

  • Had black pudding for breakfast today, with a fried egg in a tortilla wrap with ketchup. I love the stuff and class it as one of my five a day. It's almost a veg 😜

  • I did indeed know that fact, which validates my indulgence of this amazing delectation. Best served once spread with English mustard (Colman's only - forget anything else).

  • Last year I did an article about Bury market and The Bury Black Pudding Company gave me a vegan version to try and it was amazing you would not have known the difference. They sell it in all the supermarkets.
