Do you have a baking style?
It is absolutely okay to use an online recipe!
I find baking such a whirlwind of emotions. The excitement of picking a recipe, the worry when in a supermarket of buying the correct ingredients and not forgetting something, the feeling of trepidation when you put the goods in the oven and the taste test. However, I have found out that it is so important to make sure you stick to your baking style. Following a recipe that is created by someone else is not suited to everyone. I often find some of the wording a bit ambiguous and so I have to remember, that I am baking this cake, not the person who created the recipe.
So what's your style? The first thing I do is scan the recipe and look for the methods that I am most comfortable with. This could be kneading a dough, icing, shaping, whatever it is, make sure that when you get to these parts in the method, stick to your style. Don't be afraid to try something new, but stick to your gut feeling, it is often right. Lately, I've been hyper critical of what I've produced, sometimes it hasn't gone my way. What have I always ensured is that I have taken a new skill or method, even when it turns out like a disaster!
