Duke's collaborates with brewery on beer that pairs perfectly with mayonnaise
That's right, there's a beer that pairs perfectly with mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is one of the most, if not the most, controversial condiments there is. If you're a fan, you're a fan and if you're not, then you are really not. Well, now both sides of the argument have something they can potentially agree on, a beer that's been brewed to pair perfectly with mayonnaise.
South Carolina based, Duke's Mayonnaise has collaborated with Virginia based Champion Brewery Company to tackle the age old question, Can we create the perfect beer to pair with Duke's mayonnaise and more specifically, a Duke's slathered BLT. And the answer is yes!
The result is named Family Recipe, after Duke's origins, and is a 5.1 percent ABV Vienna style lager made with Vienna malt and Magnum and Saaz hops for some bitterness (27 IBUs). A Vienna style lager makes sense for this application, where the beer is meant to further improve mayo accentuated dishes. As we know mayonnaise is a fatty condiment and the bitter and crisp finish of a lager helps to cut through the fattiness that can linger on your tongue. However, Vienna malt has a bready sweetness that other lagers don't and that makes this combo about more than just cleansing the palette.

Rebecca Lupesco, Duke's brand marketing manager of 'mayohem', said this in an announcement, "The spirit of this collaboration truly encapsulates the Duke's brand - it's bold, southern and a little saucy. Champion has perfected the art of beer and food pairings with Family Recipe - sun ripened, juicy tomatoes, crispy bacon, lots of Duke's mayo, and a refreshing sipping beer is basically what summertime is made for."
Owner of Champion, Hunter Smith, explained that he's already familiar with Duke's products, "It's the only mayo that is used in our restaurants, so it only made sense to collaborate. We've think we've created a beverage that celebrates the southern heritage of our respective products."
The beer is available at the Champion Tap Room in Charlottesville, Champion's breweries, restaurants and retailers across Virginia and North Carolina. It will also be available at the Duke's Mayo Classic games this year in Charlotte, North Carolina.
So what do you think FoodTribers, if you can get your hands on it, will you be trying this beer?

I have to have this!
I’m honestly intrigued, I think it could be good
You're 100% right about mayonnaise! I make it for my family. They love it, but I can't bring myself to even try it. However, I love beer, particularly with a bit of bitterness. If I come across this one in Australia, I will definitely try it!
The ABV is to low for me and I don't like Lager but I would give it a day in court.
