El Pollo Loco is launching new chicken-less and keto tacos
Supposedly it's the world's first ever keto taco
KFC is dipping its toe in the world of plant-based chicken and you can hunt down meat-free chicken at your local grocery store. But it doesn’t quite seem to have taken off in the way beef alternatives like Impossible and Beyond have.
But El Pollo Loco is making a big commitment to plant-based protein. It has become one of the first fast food chains to sell a plant-based chicken alternative at all of its locations.
The restaurant is offering a meat-free taco that’s cooked with fire roasted peppers, onions, and tomatoes. The Chickenless Pollo Taco is topped with queso fresco, lettuce and avocado, wrapped in a corn and flour tortilla. The protein itself is 100% non-GMO soy.
The taco is part of a new range which also includes what’s being billed as the world’s first keto taco. This Keto Certified Taco has tender pieces of fire-grilled chicken, jack cheese, handmade pico and ripe avocado in a keto-friendly tortilla and finished with creamy cilantro dressing.
There’s also a baja or spicy shrimp taco, and a chicken avocado taco.
In fact you can choose from a total of seven taco options as part of El Pollo Loco’s Mix & Match Street Tacos series. A customizable 6-Pack Taco Box is available at all restaurant locations.
“Coming off the heels of the successful launch of better-for-you limited-time offerings earlier this year, our customers wanted more,” said Mark Hardison, SVP of Marketing at El Pollo Loco. “We’re thrilled to expand on that with the new Mix & Match Street Tacos that were created to fit every taste preference and lifestyle, as well as debut our first plant-based protein and Keto taco.”
