Eva Mendes reveals that she struggles with food

The actress opened up on Instagram

1y ago

We know that glossy photos of celebs on Instagram aren’t exactly real. They’re edited, filtered and don’t tell the whole story. We know this… and yet, it can be easy to get swept up in the facade and end up feeling bad about our decidedly normal-looking lives, whether it’s what we had for lunch or our latest vacay.

That’s why it’s great when celebrities deliberately call out the fakeness on Insta. Enter Eva Mendes. This past weekend the superstar actress made a point of highlighting a retouched photo, sharing the following post:

She wrote: “A few days ago I posted the picture on the left and made a comment that it was retouched. Most the stuff I post is from my phone and not retouched FYI. But yes I do like a filter. Anyway wanted to post side by side with the unretouched image on the right so you can see the before and after. Always wanna be transparent with you all.”

Then Mendes went one step farther and opened up even more. In a response to a comment, she explained that she has ‘struggles with food’.

She wrote: “I want women to know it takes a lot for me to look this way and that I struggle with food among many other things.”

We wish more celebs were as open as Mendes about their relationship with food!

  • I think it’s wonderful. I think many people are tired of stars being untouchable idols. It’s stressful enough being famous, having to maintain a facade of being perfect is ridiculous.

  • That is brave. I know someone who used to re-touch photos. He would be given a list of requirements - I remember him telling me he was asked to shorten someone’s neck and make someone else look less furry! He also said he was sworn to secrecy and the people being photographed knew nothing about it.

  • Yes. Let's have less fakeness on social media.

  • I don’t think people deserve to go through this. Also just let others be.

  • Always good to see the human side and to know she's not the only one who struggles with food. As one gets older it's more and more difficult as your body needs less and less, yet your appetites stay the same. Such a drag 🤔
