We thought 2020 was really screwed when the news arrived that there would be no Great British Bake Off this year.

After all, it’s a bit tricky to film a baking show during a global pandemic.

But all is not lost. It has been confirmed that filming has resumed… ‘in deep secret’. Ooh.

There were question marks as to whether the show would be postponed, or cancelled completely for 2020.

However, according to Deadline, Jane Millichip, chief commercial officer at Sky Studios (the parent company of Bake Off producer Love Productions), has said filming has already started in secret.

At a virtual Broadcasting Press Guild lunch, Millichip told viewers, “It’s all happening in deep secret, somewhere in darkest deepest Britain in the shires… You will have your Victoria sponge this year”

There was no confirmation however, as to whether the tent had moved to a new location as part of new safety measures.

To add to that, Gary Davey, CEO of Sky Studios said the show is “going very well… As you can imagine, there was a lot of work collaboratively between Love Productions and our Covid protocols team just to get that right.”

Everyone involved in the show, from contestants to crew was quarantined in the run-up to filming.

This new series will be the first with Matt Lucas as host, alongside Noel Fielding, replacing the lovely Sandi Toksvig.

It’s exciting news, and we can’t wait for it to be on Channel 4 at some point later this year.
