Finders Orange & Raisin rum Old Fashioned recipe
A delicious twist on an absolute classic...
A little sweet, a little bitter, brown and boozy, that's an Old Fashioned. This delicious drink is in fact the very definition of a cocktail. Well, the 1806 definition of a cocktail anyway: spirit, sugar, water, bitters.
Traditionally, an Old Fashioned is made with bourbon whiskey, but this Finders Spirits version is made with Orange & Raisin rum. Yum.
The Old Fashioned is another drink where its history is shrouded in mystery. It was thought that James E Pepper, bartender at private social club, The Pendennis Club in Louisville, came up with the very first iteration in 1880, and took it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. But it looks like there's no single person who can claim the title. The drink did appear in several cocktail books and on cocktail menus in the late 19th century, and was often under the title of Whiskey Cocktail.
From back in the day, there are versions with gin, curaçao, absinthe... all sorts. So it makes plenty of sense to make one with delicious rum.
