My team may have lost, but the food was damn good!
The most important college football game of any year, to me, is the Iron Bowl. Auburn University (my alma mater) versus the University of Alabama. It's a highly contentious game, and no matter how each team has done during the season, it's a total dog fight and it seems both teams end up surprising each other. This game is more important to me than if my team was in the NCAA Championship game!
One of the best things about watching the Iron Bowl is having friends and family over, right after Thanksgiving, for some really good, but crappy, football food! As has become tradition at my house, I "fire up" the hot dog roller grill (a common hot dog cooking method in many gas station in the US of A!) and throw on some all beef dogs (and sometimes taquitos, bratwurst, or chicken rollers) for the most unhealthy of football feasts. Canned hot dog chili and yellow cheese sauce are heated up, onions are diced, and condiments (and coleslaw!) are laid out for a gas station inspired buffet of awesomeness!
Some all beef dogs and taquitos rolling away to perfection!
Yum! Hot dog chili and liquid gold! (That's yellow cheese sauce!)
Onions and coleslaw. It's how you load a dog!
Some healthy snacks were also provided by some close friends. And believe it or not, I had some of this too!
My dogs came out absolutely delicious! I plopped a dog down on each bun, and then topped them with hot dog chili,, hot sauce (Texas Pete!) cheese sauce, onions, mustard, and coleslaw. My ridiculously loaded dogs were extremely messy and hard to eat, and I had to resort to using a fork and knife for some of them! By the end of the night, I had eaten four of these bad boys, along with copious amounts of alcoholic beverage. There was also a lot of yelling at the screen as my team fought hard, but ultimately lost the Iron Bowl after four overtimes. But despite the loss, it was a great game, with great food, and I was thrilled to experience it all with great people!
Sooooooooo terrible, but sooooooooo good!
Until next year, and next Iron Bowl, my unhealthy football feast friend!
