For the love of fire cooked food

Would you stand in the snow, ice and cold?

You all here in southern Ohio we have been covered with snow and ice with temperatures from teens to twenties (Fahrenheit) As I look out the window I see my favorite cooking area covered in ice and snow and thought about steaks being kissed by fire. I need the smell of mesquite and cherry smoke to tickle my nostrils. I needed to hear the sound that only happens when fat drips down to the fire. For my true fire cookers out there you know what I am on about. We do not pack it up for the season, this craving is year round.

So yesterday I could not resist any more. So while my wife was out getting the steaks I went out into the blowing wind, sliding on ice and trudging through snow to start my fire. With the smell of charcoal, mesquite and cherry rising into the air I could not stop smiling, I needed this in my life.

The steaks were T bones marinated in Dale's steak seasoning. As recommended by our friend John Battersby. When I heard that nice sizzle of the steaks hitting the hot grates all was right with the world.

The steaks were literally fork tender. The steaks needed to marinade in the Dale's steak seasoning a bit longer because it was barely noticeable. What was noticeable was that distinct flavor of steak cooked on a wood fire and that my friends is what my belly and soul needed.

When you read this do you think "Amen my brother!" or " You're completely insane!" tell me in the comments below. I hope your weekend is full of great food and good times. I love you all!

  • Those steaks look delicious. Unless the power was out, no I’d be using my cast iron pan if it was freezing outside. But I’m not an avid griller like some. But I’ve I say if you love it, then don’t let the weather stop you.... well unless it tornado season then that might not be good.😉

    • Thank you my friend! That is fair enough, cast iron with some butter and rosemary is a great choice. I do love it ... a lot😀 Yes a tornado may make me think twice. 🤣

  • Nice, we only use charcoal and it takes FOREVER in the winter to heat up and stay hot enough to cook just burgers...but after this polar vortex if we have more mild days we may have to break it out!! 🍔🥩🌭🍗

    • Nothing wrong with that! The combo of wood and charcoal is a must in these conditions. Especially since I think charcoal lighter fluid is of the devil. 😆 I hope you have some nice days soon so you can enjoy it again.

    • I'd love to see you do a post on how to set up the perfect all weather BBQ, I think you are suitably qualified and I would definitely appreciate a step by step guide with some troubleshooting tips for absolute beginners please 😁

    • I knew you would certainly understand what I was on about. Dale's steak seasoning will be getting another day in court for sure.

    • When I use it for Flat Iron steak, I usually blade tenderize the meat before letting it marinade in the Dale's. It helps it stick up the flavors. Then, when it's grilling, I drizzle the marinade out of the bag onto the steaks occasionally.
