Former premier league footballer Marko Arnautović now makes his own gin
Reasonably priced at £30, made in Austria, 40% ABV
Marko Arnautović is an Austrian footballer of Serbian descent who currently plays for Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG. He's been a full international for Austria since 2008, earning 80 caps and scoring 26 international goals. Before moving to Shanghai, he played for Internazionale in Italy, Werder Bremen in Germany, Twente in the Netherlands and Stoke City and West Ham in the English Premier League.
As we all know, China was the first country to impose strict quarantine measures to curb the outbreak of Covid, and since Arnautović wasn't there when all hell broke loose, he wasn't allowed to go back and eventually spent four weeks in quarantine in Dubai, and then in Germany, before returning home in Austria.
Well, long story short, he decided to make the most of his time by creating his own brand of gin. Why not.
The location he selected for the launch of his new brand is the rather spectacular rooftop bar at the Hotel Grand Ferdinand in Vienna and his gin, Arnautovic Gin, is available for global shipping, each bottle costs £30.
“England hat mich geprägt und in meinem Herzen hab’ ich Österreich und Serbien.” Gemeinsam mit einer Wiener Edel-Destillerie entwickelte Marko Arnautovic einen Gin, der englische Tradition und österreichische Klassik mit einer serbischen Note vereint.
The Austrian footballer and gin producer says his gin is "unusually fruity", because it's made with apricot and plum, and apparently inspired by his time playing in the EPL for Stoke City and West Ham. Not sure what he means by that, but never mind.
It is produced in Austria and comes with 40% ABV. He says, "If there is reason to celebrate you can do it with a glass of gin and [with everything going on at the moment] you should appreciate what you have all the more," adding that "No, 2020 is not the best year yet. The highlight is my gin."
