Fortnum & Mason are selling crisps for £25 – and no one is quite sure why

Sometimes there is nothing that can satisfy a craving like a packet of crisps. But is there a limit to how much people are willing to pay for some? Fortnum & Mason don't think so.

The upmarket department store has shocked consumers by selling a tub of vegan crisps for a whopping £25. For anyone doing the maths, that's nearly 17 times more than the standard £1.50 you pay for a sharing bag.

The crisps in question are Bonilla a La Vista Patatas Fritas Crisps. They come in a tin with blue and white packaging and weigh in at 500g in total.

Fortnum & Mason is known for selling luxury foods, but the fact you can go to any supermarket and pick up a 600g, 24 bag multi pack of Walkers for £3.50 is causing a stir and a struggle among critics.

One man expressed his discontent writing, 'Who is this for? Hipsters who want their soup served on a carving plate "paired" with a slotted spoon so there are gymnastics to eat and be charged through the nose to wear most of it?'

Meanwhile one woman commented with, 'Nah, a multi-pack of even Kettle Chips is £1.25' and another simply said 'It looks like a blinking tin of paint.'

The vegan crisps have three ingredients, potatoes, olive oil and sea salt. The Fortnum & Mason website says that the crisps are 'the perfect afternoon snack to share or keep all to yourself.' Adding that they are perfect to, 'enjoy alongside delicious, seasonal dips such as salsa and hummus.'
