Fortune cookie actually gives man good luck

That’s if you consider winning half a million dollars to be beneficial.

Good fortune is not something that exists in ample quantities – unless you happen to be rich, in which case several envelopes stuffed with cash can buy literally anything. I’ve often wondered if it would be worth setting up a store that sells flamingos made of gold just to service the needs of the wealthy and gullible.

However, the past 12 months have been an exemplary display of the advancements of science. Not only have solutions been found to disastrous problems created by humans, but it now seems that misfortune is a thing of the past courtesy of a shocking discovery in the USA.

Ernesto Sorzano is officially the luckiest person on the planet (other than the people who get to try out new Oreo flavors, obviously). His predicted fortune turned into a great financial one thanks to a visit to a Chinese restaurant.

Feeling the need for a treat one evening, Sorzano ordered a fried rice and shrimp meal from a takeout in North Carolina. As is compulsory, he cracked open the gifted fortune cookie included with his meal, which informed him of his supposed lucky numbers.

Since no good luck has ever come to anyone from opening a fortune cookie (after the last one I opened promised good news I subsequently careered face-first into a puddle), he was likely very skeptical. However, he took the plunge and splashed out $3 on a Powerball lottery ticket, using the Chinese cookie’s honorable numbers.

It turned out to be probably the best tasting takeaway he’d ever ordered. Although not all of the numbers came up, enough of the cookie’s predictions came true that Sorzano bagged a victory of $500,000.

Commenting on his monumental win, Sorzano said: “This was a good investment. I’m just super happy that my dreams came true.”

Although it has not been confirmed what the thrilled diner intends to spend his prize on, perhaps he would be wise to invest it in a few more Chinese takeouts. Maybe the crispy duck will lay a golden egg.

Has a fortune cookie ever given you good news?

    • Personally I need to play the lottery first. Eating Chinese isn't a problem though...
