GBBO Hollywood handshake given green light, despite Covid risk
Fans angered and concerned over the breach of physical distancing
Fans of The Great British Bake Off were delighted to hear that the series had secretly been given the go ahead to start filming. Given that they normally film during the summer and we were in the midst of lockdown during the pandemic, this was a huge and very welcome surprise!
This was allowed to go ahead on the basis that everyone involved in the show isolated in a bubble, specific to the show. It's believed that they have remained together for the duration of the filming with everyone being tested for the virus on a regular basis.
This should, theoretically keep everyone safe, as it's everything that can be done to ensure that everyone who is involved is healthy.
With these stringent rules being followed, the producers have given the green light to judge, Paul Hollywood, to give his famous handshake, as a reward for outstanding creations. The Hollywood Handshake has become an iconic part of the long running baking series, with it being seen as the ultimate accolade in any given round.
This has angered a lot of fans who think that participants in the show should be following the guidelines we are all being subjected to. It's unclear, given that they have formed a bubble, whether they will be following physical distancing guidelines, staying 1-2m apart, but the handshake is the clearest breach of anything the public are facing.
One concerned viewer said "We're all social distancing whether it's 1m or 2m and therefore shouldn't be shaking anyone's hand. In my opinion, this sends out the wrong message to viewers!"
Others have just been glad that Bake Off is able to go ahead, given the significant disruption to the filming schedules of other programs.

They are likely living in a ‘bubble’ like the NBA. All of the teams are living in an empty Disney Resort and playing at a venue locked down. I watched a special on how they live...no outsiders, tested twice a day, closely monitored. The transfer to the venue is also self contained. This is for everyone involved not just the players. It is costing a great deal of money but it is a a pro-league sport that has a plan that is working. (No thanks to the orange one in Washington DC all done by the league.)
I think that's the idea here too. Keeping everyone as safe as possible by keeping them all together and making sure they are all virus free
Unfortunately only the NBA are following the model. Both professional Football and Baseball aren’t following the model so players do disappear if they test positive. That has the unfortunate affect of others following out of concern for...
