Get excited, Jones Turkey & Gravy soda is making a comeback
Nothing says Thanksgiving like the traditional meal in liquid form
For years the Washington based Jones Soda brand has been making quite a name for themselves, to the point where if you haven't tried it then you've heard of it.
One of the ways they've done so is with their limited edition, unique flavors including poutine, dirt and bacon. They've even gone as far as to release limited edition holiday flavors Christmas Ham and green bean casserole. One of their most popular holiday releases has been their Thanksgiving themed Turkey & Gravy Soda.
It was originally launched in 2003 but hasn't been on shelves for over a decade. The soda was one that really helped the popularity of Jones grow, and as they celebrate their 25th anniversary, it's making a comeback.
Jones has stated that they want to make this rerelease extra special, so they are making 35,000 bottles and all of which will be individually numbered for collectability. Though these are already on shelves in Canada, they'll be hitting US shelves soon.
Mark Murray, CEO and President of Jones had this to say about the flavor and the rerelease, "We've taken enough of a breather from this flavor, and we think this is the right time to bring it back. There's a whole generation - an entire demographic of Gen Z and younger millennials - that's never tried it, but maybe heard of it."
So, what does the Jones Turkey & Gravy Soda taste like? Well, according to Jones themselves it's "more of a gag than for drinkability (which, truth to tell, is a challenge even for the most adventurous tasters)." Funnily enough this comes after they tweaked the recipe for this release and according to Adweek, the changes they made weren't to make it more palatable but to make it taste more authentically like turkey and gravy.
"It all sounds absurd," Murray adds, "but it's unique and different and funny, and it makes people remember who you are."
As someone who grew up in the Pacific Northwest, I remember when Jones was huge and everywhere and I definitely remember seeing the original Turkey & Gravy Soda on the shelves. I never had it, but it always generated a lot of talk. So it's really interesting to see it making a comeback.
So what do you think FoodTribers, will you be trying this unique soda or do you prefer to keep your Thanksgiving meal on the plate?

I really hope it doesn’t, but part of me thinks it might, especially because they changed the recipe to make it taste more like turkey and gravy
