Got some traditional Soviet-style lunch at not-at-all traditional Soviet-style place.

-Šuba: onions, potatoes, beetroot, herring and mayo

-Cheburek: deep-fried ‘turnover’ pastry with meet

-A beer in a jar that says “moje temne minule = my dark past”

    • Šuba was great! And the beer, too. The cheburek was a bit too… fried. For my taste

  • Cheburek is nice. I think, it's originally from Asian parts of former Soviet Union. These areas have great cuisines and street food cultures, influenced by Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq and, even, China. There are quite a few great videos on YouTube about its markets.

    • Indeed. When you think about it, the Soviet Union basically bordered with Western Europe as well as with China

    • Eating one's way through Asian parts of former Soviet Union would be the treat, but, unfortunately, whole of the region may have an issue-and-a-half, to say the least. And this is before COVID is taken into account.
