Greggs' Vegan Hot Cross Buns for a dairy-free Easter
Greggs are keeping the vegan goods coming as 2020 continues
Greggs made a name for itself as a purveyor of vegan goods when it released the vegan sausage roll in 2019's Veganuary. This January it delighted consumers by releasing a vegan steak bake, and subsequently released a veganized version of the classic glazed donut.
Now, with Easter on the horizon, the company has revealed a new vegan product: hot cross buns. Admittedly, this is a little less exciting than vegan meat substitutes – I didn't really appreciate that hot cross buns weren't already vegan. But even so, it's great to know that Greggs is keeping their buns butter and egg free for 2020. Best of all, they are being sold in four packs for £1, proving once again that Greggs is the perfect choice for the vegan on a tight budget.
Spiced with orange flavour and dried fruits, and glazed to perfection, these buns will no doubt make the perfect breakfast when toasted and smothered in vegan spread.
Greggs has made its continued interest in the vegan market clear in the past months; last summer it revealed that it was planning to veganize all its best selling products, and it released this excitingly ambiguous graphic on its animation before Christmas:
We can be quite certain that more is to come from the high street bakery as 2020 progresses, and I for one cannot wait to see what's next.
