Grind your own Turmeric?

- Harder work than ready powdered but well worth it.

Haldi (turmeric whole) - Small amounts of turmeric are used in curries and cooking generally, so it's easier to grind what you need and because it's not powdered it last for ages, stored in air tight and light sealed containers. The colour intensity on powdered turmeric doesn't last long and the flavour goes, so give this a go. This has been in my cupboard for over 2 years, given it a grind and that is what you see in the photograph, still as vibrant as the day i bought it. You can also buy fresh if your lucky enough to live by a good Indian Delicatessen. The small grinders are perfect but the large grinders dont have small enough...umm...grinding plates, if that's what they'r called, You can bash the turmeric in a Mortis and Pestle, but most of it will fly out and hit you in the eye, probably, so this is how i do it. Iv'e used a 1 penny piece to show size. gx
