Hardee's BFC Thickburger; Another Example of 'Murica's Excess. And It Was Good!
The cheese puck was actually good!
Nothing screams American excess quite like our fast food. Fast food is everywhere and it seems every purveyor of these unhealthy but quick, hot meals seems to have to outdo the competition with something even more unhealthy and over the top.
Hardee's recently dropped something new on the fast food landscape, and gave it a sexy-for-fast-food name; The BFC Thickburger. Big F___ing Cheese? Close. Try Big Fried Cheese!
I had recently seen an advertisement somewhere for the Hardee's BFC Thickburger and I instantly became interested. The melty, gooey puck of cheese served on top of a juicy burger looked really good, and thus it was stuck in my head. Thoughts of the cheesiness festered and grew. I'm trying to eat healthier now that I'm forty years old, but damn, the thought of that fried cheese trying to harden my arteries wouldn't leave my head! While out and about running errands, a quick Google search revealed that there was a Hardee's serving up BFC a long thirty minute drive through thick rain. What the hell!? You only live once! Let's get some Big Fried Cheese!
A long haul in some less than awesome weather later, I was arriving back at my house with my Hardee's BFC Thickburger, ordered true fast food style; through the drive thru lane. As I got the burger out of it's greasy fast food paper bag, I will admit I wasn't expecting much. Too me, in the photos, the Hardee's BFC Thickburger looked to have too much cheese. The burger to cheese ratio just didn't look right in the advertisements. But I still had to dig in!
What a healthy lunch!
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The fried puck of cheese actually tasted pretty damn good! The mixture of cheddar and mozzarella was actually mild enough to not offend the tongue, and it maintained a nice gooeyness. The fried breading on the cheese puck added a nice crunchiness to the burger. The Hardee's BFC Thickburger also has something on it classily called "Boom Boom" sauce. One would think this would be some sort of zesty concoction that would provide some sort of bite to the flavor of the burger. Unfortunately, the rest of the Hardee's BFC Thickburger was on the dry, bland side. All in all, it wasn't an unpleasant lunch, and I found that the puck of cheese could actually have been a little bigger. Would I drive out of my way to eat another one of these? Nah! But I'd consider stopping in again if there was one located conveniently nearby. And maybe I'd add an excessive amount of Boom Boom sauce to the next one!
Did I mention cheese?
