Harry Potter cocktail recipes to cast a spell on your weekend
Who said it needed to be Hallowe'en to step into the wizarding world?
You are never too old to enjoy Happy Potter, but these are some strictly adult ways to help you forget you're a muggle and inject a little magic into your evening. The recipes are brought to you by the ever helpful fellows at Aldi.
We can't promise you'll be able to turn your enemy into a frog, or that you'll suddenly be able to take your broom on your next commute, but make these enchanting potions for your friends and you're sure to be awarded a sorting hat full of house points.
This potion can be made by only the most competent of wizards. When drunk, it enables you to assume the identity of a person, if part of them is added. Most commonly, this is a piece of hair belonging to the person you want to become. Like any of the potions you'll be more used to drinking, the effects are temporary.
While the ingredients for the original potion include body parts and other unpalatable items, here are some of the all together more tasty treats you'll need for this one:
You can pick up some fruity green juice in Aldi stores, or make your own by blending apple, kiwi, lime and grapes. Add this to a shaker and mix in the Haysmith’s Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin. Top up with ice and some lemonade and shake before serving.
Also known as Liquid Luck, and goodness knows we could all use some of that. A good brew will give you luck in all you do for a limited period of time, but it comes with the warning that overuse can cause overconfidence and giddiness. Just like a standard cocktail then.
Whether it's winning a Quidditch match or just winning the affections of a special someone, this will set you up for a good outing. Here's what you'll need:
If you don't have simple syrup at home, heat equal parts caster sugar and water and leave to cool. Then mix with lemon juice in the bottom of a glass, before adding 50ml ginger beer and topping up with Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut.
There is nothing a weary wizard loves more than a trip to The Three Broomsticks for a fresh Butterbeer. Whether it's time consuming spells or just the general 9-5 that has you in the same mood, now you can quench your thirst with a pint of the good stuff.
It's sweet and delicious and the most famous drink in the wizarding world, here's all you'll need to make your own:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often. Then stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/4 of the cream, and leave to cool. Once cooled, stir in the spiced rum.
Separately, combine 2 tablespoons of the sugar/water mixture with the remaining cream. Whisk until just thickened, but not completely whipped: about 2 to 3 minutes should do it.
To serve, divide the boozy mix between 4 glasses and top them up with cream soda before finishing them with the thickened cream.
