Here’s how you can easily send pizza to our healthcare heroes
It’s pizza vs the pandemic
The heroes on the frontline of this pandemic are working long, tiring hours, some of them in unimaginable circumstances. And there’s one thing that could help - even if just a little. And that’s free pizza.
A new project called Pizza vs Pandemic is sending literally thousands of pizza to hospitals, clinics, care centres and shelters.
The project is the result of a partnership between Slice (an app that links you with local pizza joints) and Slice Out Hunger (which produces pizza-related campaigns to support hunger releif) and Pizza to Polls. By making a donation, you’re supporting both local pizza businesses and front-line workers.
Ilir Sela, founder and CEO of Slice, told Thrillist: "We have a responsibility to our communities. With a network of over 12,000 neighborhood restaurants serving food that can serve a lot of people, we knew that we could help. By launching Pizza vs. Pandemic... we are able to not only offer critical support to the tireless care workers at the front line of the coronavirus but also to provide much-needed business for our small business restaurant partners who are struggling right now."
The campaign is arranging deliveries “in the greatest areas of need”. As of publication, Pizza vs Pandemic has delivered 2,100 pizzas since March 21.
The site explains: “[Your donation] will be routed directly to an independent pizzeria through the Slice pizza app and they’ll make sure food gets to someone who needs it at a hospital, clinic, shelter, or care center.
Know of workers who could use some pizza love? Let us know when you make your contribution or tweet us @SliceOutHunger. We’ll verify the destination and set up the order. It’s that simple!”
