How do you like your crumble? The question arose today as I finished the last portion from my lovely homemade rhubarb, cinnamon, oats and almond gluten free crumble. The crumble crumbled perfectly. The custard was the perfect consistency not too thick and not too thin, enhanced with a tiny amount of almond essence. However, I ran out of custard. Rather than make more I thought I'd use up the single cream sitting in the fridge. Perfect, I thought. Or was it. No. The flavour was all wrong. Where the custard brought out the spice and fruity flavours, the cream just killed it. Is it just me? How do you like your crumble? What's your favourite fruit and accompaniment?
