Honey Chai Siu Chicken

A classic Cantonese cuisine with northern-Chinese flavour

Prep time1h 30min
Cook time30min
Total time2h

  • Boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 10~15 slices of ginger
  • 3 tablespoons of cooking wine
  • 1~2 tablespoons of honey
  • 3/4 tablespoon of tomato ketchup
  • 1~2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of warm water
  • Broccoli (decoration, optional)
  • Carrot (decoration, optional)
  • Sesame (decoration, optional)

Chicken thighs πŸ”

  1. Defrost chicken thighs, put them in a separate pot (to keep clean and safe)
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 2 tablespoons of cooking wine, 10~15 slices of ginger, mix them well
  3. Leave it for at least 1 hour

Honey chai siu sauce 🍯

  1. Add 3/4 tablespoon of tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon of cooking wine, 1~2 tablespoons of honey, 1~2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of warm water into a bowl
  2. Mix them up

Start cooking! πŸ₯³

  1. Heat the pot, add some oil, then add slices of garlic
  2. Remove the garlic after releasing its unique flavour, then turn into medium fire, add chicken thighs and fry
  3. Remove chicken thighs after they become golden, then roast them using an oven at 475 degrees Fahrenheit (about 200 degrees Celsius) for 10~15 minutminutes
  4. Heat the pot, add some oil (or use the oil left in the pot), then add slices of ginger
  5. Add thighs, then add the sauce prepared earlier, turn into small fire, cook for about 10 minutes

The final touch 😜

  1. Almost done!
  2. Cut the chicken into strips, then put the strips on the rice
  3. Add the sauce left in the pot, then you can decorate with sesame, broccoli and carrot (I don't like carrot so, no decoration)
  4. All done!
