I saw these burgers in our local Sainso's supermarket and thought don't knock it until you've tried it so I bought them.

What we have here are plant burgers based on soy, pea and chickpea. Back in the summer I tried plant based bacon and it was disgusting so I wasn't optimistic about these burgers. How wrong I was! I did fry them in beef dripping, which helped, but they were really quite tasty and juicy. They're not trying to taste like beef but they have a nice flavour and texture that compliments the cheese and sauce well. I used a slice of Monterey Jack, a dollop of mayo and squirt of hot sauce.

Have you ever tried a McDonald's burger with no sauce or cheese? It tastes of nothing. These plant burgers were far tastier and if the upcoming McPlant is anything like them I would seriously opt for it every time.

So am I a convert? Not really. I love my medium rare sous vide beef burgers too much but if the future means less meat and eating these burgers occasionally then that's ok by me.
