Insane 'hot tea' recipe leaves the world baffled and enraged

This is NOT tea

Tea. It's just one of those things that everyone agrees on. It's water with some kind of leaf – fresh or otherwise – infused into it. However, it seems one lady in the US has missed the memo.

A recipe video was released this week on TikTok for 'hot tea', and it's so far from anything vaguely tea-like that the internet is struggling to cope.

Nicole Caroline has made her own version of tea, which she has somehow reverse engineered from ready-mixed iced tea. Honestly, this one has to be seen to be believed:

So that's one cup of iced tea mix, some ground cinnamon and clove, about a cup of lemonade, two cups of tang (powdered orange concentrate) and two cups of sugar.

As one commenter puts it, "where's the tea? All I saw was sugar and flavoured sugar."

Among the internet respondents were a number of deeply offended Brits. To many, this video is nothing short of blasphemy:

Even pop legend Tom Jones weighed in on the matter:

But the question is, is the Welsh heartthrob right? The drink is made from instant iced tea, after all, so it does technically have tea in it. What do you think?

  • Oh, that is not tea .. it is a sugary beverage. I belong to the group that do not add sugar to tea and passively judges someone adding sugar to the tea 🧐

  • This stuff was very popular in the US in the 1970's, "recipes" for it are in many church cookbooks from that era. It's not horrible, but neither is it tea.

  • Tea is for calm quiet time with family and friends, or just yourself.

Tang is not a bad breakfast drink, taken in moderation. Thank you to NASA and the r + n chaps and chapettes.

Cloves belong in hot pilau , on a cold autumn evening, after that twilight of working on an old Mini.

Cinnamon is for cinnamon buns, just a little bit with a few sultanas.

Lemonade is served flat, with dry toast, if you're not feeling well.

But , America is a free country.

The ingredients list sounds more like half of an orange , cinnamon and clove cake recipe . If you add flour to it, some sultanas, and bake it in patty cakes, you might halfway to a sort of cupcake recipe.

Although it does sound like maybe there's a wee bit too much sugar.
