Is popcorn the most confusing snack ever?

It's still is the best, but it's confusing

There, I said it. Popcorn is the most confusing snack ever. Now do not get me wrong. I love popcorn, but here is why it is confusing. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN TO STOP EATING IT!

The problem is the aroma. Whenever you pop corn, it gives out this distinct fragrance. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. You cannot resist that aroma. That is why when you go to the movies just before every show they pop up a fresh batch of corn and the entire theatre gets that beautiful scent, and you are tempted to buy it.

But here is my problem: I am never satisfied with eating it. In cinemas, I buy a gigantic tub, and I never share it. After finishing the entire tub, I am still left unsatisfied, and the urge is always there to keep on eating more. It is almost like a drug; it's addictive. Whenever I make a batch at home, I have to finish it, or else I wake up in the middle of the night and snack on it. Yeah, call me weird.

Talking about weird, I also only like to eat popcorn that's freshly made or popped. I don't like the popcorn that's pre-packed and available off the shelf. Also, salted and butter flavours are the only way to go. No other flavour comes close.

Did you know that popcorn is also America's eighth favourite snack?

Talking about popcorn has made me hungry, so I decided to make some. No, not the microwave type. Just the regular hand popped one (it's quite straightforward). Popcorn is a type of corn kernel. I bought some ACT II, which can be bought from any supermarket. I just put it in a pot with some oil, salt and butter, let it sit for a while and stirred it till it started popping. Once they start popping, just put a lid on it and watch the magic happen.

I decided to film me making popcorn, and I am sure this video is the most satisfying thing you will see all day. Maybe more than eating the popcorn itself! Remember to vote for your favourite brand of popcorn in the poll below...

  • This reminds me - an arty and crafty lady I knew once made some stuffed dolls for her children and filled them with corn kernels. They got washed one day, then hung in front of the fire. Demonically, they started leaping around on their pegs.

Anyway, we used to have a popcorn maker that you'd throw the kernels into, pop, then season to taste. But a microwaved bag is quicker and easier and the one thing that food culture doesn't need, Shivaum, is popcorn snobbery.

    • hahahahahaha that story is epic.It is not about popcorn snobbery but also about the health benefits of popping your own corn. Plus it is hugely satisfying!

    • I'll tell you what's hugely satisfying. Instant gratification.

  • I pop my popcorn in a pot and it gets butter and my creole! So good! Popcorn of choice is what boyscouts sell.

    • Creole is interesting. If the boy scouts showed up at my door they would not need to go anywhere else.

  • I don't eat popcorn often but when I do it's made on the stove. I don't really care for microwave popcorn.
