James Corden faces backlash over 'Spill Your Guts' segment
TikToker claims the show promotes anti-Asian sentiment
Late night talk show host, James Corden, is under the spotlight following backlash from social media and claims of racism. The "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" segment is a regular occurrence on his show, where celebrity guests must play a sneaky game of 'truth or dare'. The guest can choose 'truth', where they respond to a very personal question, or 'dare', where they must eat something "gross" from the table.
Most guests tend to choose the 'dare' option to avoid revealing their personal secrets. The show had not been a problem until recently when 'TikToker' Kim Saira pointed out that a segment of Corden's show from 2016 was "racist af" and mocked Asian cuisine.
Kim Saira has now started a petition to remove the "Spill Your Guts" segment from Corden's show, stating that it encourages anti-Asian racism. The petition highlights that many foods in the segment are of Asian origin, including century old eggs, chicken feet and balut, which is a steamed, fertilised duck egg that has been incubated for 14 to 21 days.
The petition requests the following: major changes to the show's food or removal of the entire "Spill Your Guts" segment, a formal apology from Corden and the donation of funds to help Asian-owned small businesses. If you would like to read the petition, you can access it by clicking here.
