The 1 November is World Vegan Day, which kick starts World Vegan Month.
James May is backing a campaign by vegan charity Viva!, to #GoVegan24 and give up meat for 24 hours.
"I'm doing World Vegan Day, and I'm not eating any meat produce for a whole day," May says. "If you're into that sort of thing, give it a go. You may be surprised."
As part of his World Vegan Day shenanigans, and in the latest video for FoodTribe, May gave vegan hot dogs to two unsuspecting electricians in his kitchen bunker. In the shock of their lives, they didn’t realise they were meat-free after tasting (just ignore the Bertolli spread).
In what is possibly a bigger shock, the infamous stripy top is back!
“Things like vegan sausages, vegan bacon, vegan black pudding – I didn't know you can get that but you can. They're all there to help people make the transition from eating meat to not eating meat if that's what you want to do," May adds.
Juliet Gellatley, founder and director of Viva! says, “We're calling on people who might feel going vegan is a step too far to try it for just 24 hours. #GoVegan24 is the perfect way to explore a vegan diet. I'm sure those that do will be pleasantly surprised."
Other celebrities including Fearne Cotton, singer Gabrielle Aplin and fitness bloggers Zanna Van Dijk and Stefanie Moir have also backed the #GoVegan24 campaign.
